Christmas Spirit

processcheesefood.jpg

I don't know about you, but for me nothing brings the spirit of Christmas alive the way a block of Processed Cheese Food can. This block, courtesy of one of our gracious vendors at work, is also Pausterized, so I can eat it by the truckload with confidence.

Deck the halls with blocks of Cheese Food, fala lalala... la la. la. la...

Colo(u)rspeak

Some of you may already get A Word a Day emails— I do, but lately they have a way of getting promptly tossed from my email pile while still unread; however, this week's theme caught my eye as it may prove particularly suited for impressing dumb clients during design presentations or partaking of intellectualized conversations about fashion with pretentious friends.

I'm particularly fond of fuscous, especially the way it's so bitch'ly delivered in the pronunciation sample. Here are this week's offerings (and a couple of bonus ones while we're at it):

monday: filemot (FIL-mot)
· noun, adjective: the color of a dead or faded leaf: dull brown or yellowish brown.

tuesday: incarnadine (in-KAHR-nuh-dyn)
· adjective: flesh-colored; blood-red.
· noun: an incarnadine color.
· verb tr.: to make incarnadine.

wednesday: fuscous (FUS-kuhs)
· adjective: of a brownish-gray color; dusky.

thursday: glaucous (GLO-kuhs)
· adjective: 1. of a grayish or bluish green or white color. 2. covered with a powdery coating of such colors, as on grapes, plums, etc.

friday: taupe (toap, rhymes with rope)
· noun: a brownish gray, similar to the color of moleskin.

BONUS

chartreuse (shahr-TROOZ, -TROOS)
· noun: 1. a light, yellowish green. 2. an aromatic, usually yellow or green liqueur, originally made by Carthusian monks in Grenoble, France.
· adjective: having a light, yellowish green color.

puce (pyoos)
· noun: a deep red to dark grayish purple.

testaceous (teh-STAY-shuhs)
· adjective: 1. having a hard shell or shell-like outer covering. Composed of a shell or shell-like material. 2. having the reddish-brown or brownish-yellow hue of bricks.

tawny (TAW-nee)
· noun: a light brown to brownish orange.

cerulean (seh-ROO-lee-ahn)
· adjective: azure; sky-blue.
