ElectroDiskoCrap

I'm sad to report that last night's offering of E.D.S. was not the raging success of the first one. Aside from the fact that no one we personally invited showed up, the move to saturday night didn't seem to work in our favor either. NuBlu has an established Saturday crowd, and we weren't feeling the lack of ambiguous sexuality that we had experienced the first time around. I'll skip over the part where I was made ill by some mistery meat pizza, but let it be known that we're in the search for a new venue so we can continue what we started. We're thinking The Cock, or any such permutation on the theme.

I'll keep you posted as things develop, but in the meantime, I leave you here with evidence of our host-theme for the night. Eyepatches.

Seth Meyers and Fred Armisen still make a more palatable version of the royal duo. IMHO.

Design Geek

A few days ago was my birthday (Wednesday, April 6th to be exact). I didn't think much of it, I turned 25. Quarter of a Century mentions nonwithstanding, it felt like nothing special to me. I have grown rather blasé about my birthday in the last couple of years. I had no desire to really mark the ocassion, so the day went off without much to report. It wasn't until four days later, saturday, when as I was using an online service to buy movie tickets to go see a screening of Sahara with my ex-boyfriend (see, foreshadowing if I ever saw it) I was rudely made aware of my new situation.

I was updating my account information, as the billing ZIP was no longer accurate. While I was doing this I decided to update the rest of my user profile, in an effort to avoid receiving recommendations for disney films aimed at teenage girls or the odd chris rock production. I was numbly filling out the fields, by reflex really, when I reach the age group pulldown menu: GASP. Fuck, I'm now part of a whole new marketing group, 25-34 was the correct option. Click, sulk. Now there's a harsh reality. I now fear the changes in the kind of spam and junk mail I'll be receiving. Mortgate refinancing? Erectile disfunction aids?? True, I already get all that crap, except now it'll actually be aimed at ME. *sigh*

It's all too much. I think I'll go and rent a van, so I can drive around the woods and be alone with my aging thoughts.

Oh, but that had nothing to do with the headline. I got sidetracked. I got this bitching hoodie from Mindy and Inessa at work for my birthday. I feel like such a design nerd when I wear it. I love it.

[ps. Sahara was kinda fun. Steve Zahn was funny and looked damn good greasy.]

God Bless Caffeine

caffeineweb.jpg

Today I had my first go at the Mud Truck coffee, and I must say, i'm already hooked. I can't believe I've been at Cooper for 4 years now and missed out on this. It's really good stuff, and better karma than StarFucks. Not to mention their website has the following crazy caffeine tidbit:

"NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center researchers reported varying results when they gave various mind-altering substances to household spiders, then observed their webs. The spiders exposed to marijuana did the best spinning. Dr. David Noever, head of the research team, stated that the worst web was spun by a spider dosed with caffeine. April 1995."

Pot-loving-caffeine-junkies selling out of a truck! Sign me up. Oh, also, their cups are orange.

The Secret Life of Weiners

hotodogo.jpg

I'm not a big fan of hot dogs. Maybe it's a lifetime of Oscar Mayer™ jokes. Or maybe it's just cuz they're revolto. However, I highly recommend you mosey on over to Thea's Ranch to see what hot dogs are really doing when you're not watching.

Attention Berlin Readership

zerocrop.jpg

For those of you who are in Berlin, or near Berlin, or have so much money you could be there tomorrow if you wished: Head down to club Berghain tomorrow night (that's thursday, April 14th) and check out Zerocrop's stage extravaganza. Good music, great visuals, and unruly beards. I mean, what else do you need really?

Absence

If you've been wondering where the fuck I've gone, well I've gone off to Europe. In fact I'm writing you from there right now; London, to be exact. I left NYC wednesday night for a whirlwind adventure through Berlin and London that culminates tomorrow. No details were available as of press time, so you'll have to check in again soon. I go finish my bad market sandwich now. Ciao.

Ich bin ein Berliner

berlin_satellite.jpg

I know, lame headline, but being about the only phrase I can utter in german, it'll do for now. Besides, I was there!!

Last week I embarked in a whirlwind adventure that took me through many airports, tons of trains, countless taxies and two european cities. More to come soon, but in the meantime, enjoy the flickr album of the trip.

High Line Countdown

highline.jpg

Preliminary designs have been released for the proposed re-development of the West Side High Line elevated railway that runs through my old neighborhood of west Chelsea and Meat-Packing district. This is probably one of the most exciting public space works currently in development in NYC. Way better than that East Side subterranean monstrosity. (Over, not under please).

If you're really interested, there's also an exhibtion at MoMA on the project.

The Definition of "New isn't always Better"

newpyramid.jpg

You might be better of reading an educated history of the pyramid and other such nutrition-related design excursions over at Speak Up, because all I'm willing to do is throw up over the wretchedness that is the new pyramid logo. Come-fucking-on!!! It's hideous. AND AND AND, someone got paid $2.5 millions for it. The nausea is strong.
