Comforting... but Still Troubling
I enjoyed the new Burger King ads featuring Hootie (sans the Blowfish) from the very first time. I thought their over-the-top ludicrousness was just, well delicious. It was this same ludicrousness that made it O.K. for to actually "give props" (something I'm not in the habit of doing) to Hootie for doing the ad. I thought it was a brilliant move.
Then came the online fallout. Apparently everyone hated it, and they went down hard on Hootie, attacking him for his lack of artisitic integrity (erm, yes, the very same Hootie). I was very confused by this, and was forced to contain my enthusiasm for these silly commercials (the latest episode in what I consider one of the best advertising campaigns right now) out of fear of being chastised and forced to listen to "the Hootie we used to love," or some other unspeakably cruel punishment of the sort. I spent years trying to explain how we loved them so, and then hated him so; both times rather intensely.
But at long last, a glimpse of hope. I'm not crazy. I'm not alone. Others feel this way, and they explain why they're right. Happy day! Lunch time, I might just have me one a Tendercrisp Bacon Cheddar Ranchâ„¢ to celebrate.
